Acetone is mainly for used as a solvent and production of methyl methacrylate (and from that PMMA) as well as bisphenol A. Familiar household uses of acetone are as the active ingredient in nail polish remover and as paint thinner. Acetone is a colorless, volatile, flammable organic solvent. Acetone occurs naturally in plants, trees, forest fires, vehicle exhaust and as a breakdown product of animal fat metabolism.
